A Happy Tail

Our family began rescuing senior dogs in 2018, and quickly developed a passion for senior dog welfare. However, our real inspiration came in the form of an elderly Chihuahua, named Romeo.

We adopted Romeo in the spring of 2020. He was a tiny, toothless old fellow with bald patches and a long tongue that permanently stuck out the side of his mouth. He had been up for adoption for months without any prospects, and despite the name, he was more homely than charming. Of course, we were immediately smitten.

We didn’t know what to expect when we took him home. He was skittish and frail and he was only expected to live another year. However, we were determined to provide him a comfortable and loving home during his remaining days. As weeks turned to months, we witnessed an incredible transformation. Romeo’s charming personality began to shine through. His appetite grew, his fur became softer and shinier, and he even began to play and pounce. As the years progressed, he traveled all over the US, frequenting wine bars in cities and walking through the Texas Tundra. Today, age 17, Romeo is a happy, healthy senior dog–albeit a little stiffer and slower than he once was.*

Romeo’s transformation inspired us to contribute to senior dog welfare on a larger scale. We quickly realized that while there is a large population interested in senior dogs, they become discouraged by veterinary expenses. Many seniors have chronic conditions or require expensive medications that hopeful families cannot afford.

In response, we launched Vintage Fur; A non-profit veterinary sponsorship program which ensures that adoptable senior dogs will have covered medical care. Our revolutionary concept will significantly diminish cost concerns, therefore increasing probability of adoption. Additionally, fellow senior dog advocates can make an impact in the lives of these dogs without committing to adoption. The sky's the limit, and we can serve hundreds of dogs with the help of supporters like yourself.

That being said, welcome to the Vintage Fur Community!

Inspire Humanity Through Senior Dogs

01

Look Ahead

Sometimes your adopted senior will have an unknown or even negative past life. However, dogs have an uncanny ability not to dwell on the past–and they can teach humans too! At Vintage Fur Senior Dog Inc., we focus our energies towards the wonderful lives our seniors have ahead of them with their new families.

02

Embrace Positivity

Sometimes we feel like we’re surrounded by negativity at every turn, and it’s easy to overlook the positives. However, life offers joy and opportunity at every turn and no one embraces this more fully than dogs! A sunny attitude and a passion for helping others will always make a positive impact.

03

Quality Over Quantity

We want our best fur friends to stay with us forever! Unfortunately, knowing when to say goodbye is an important skill for owners of pets of any age. While we provide medical aid to our seniors, we believe that it is important to monitor quality of life. Every day that we spend with our seniors is a special gift and we should show our gratitude by allowing them to go when they are ready.

04

Old Dogs, New Tricks

Senior dogs still have gifts to give and deserve a permanent home with a loving, appreciative family.

We are a volunteer-run organization that depends on generous donors like yourself to operate. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, matters to us.  Become a hero to a senior pup today!
