Precious
Hi there!
My name is Precious. I may be small, but I’ve had quite the adventure over the past year.I was found wandering the streets alone in Western North Carolina shortly after Hurricane Helene in 2024. I arrived at Chihuahua Rescue and Transport in rough shape; I was very underweight and I needed surgery to treat my eyes and teeth.
Despite all odds, I proved to be a fighter! I responded well to treatment and my health has improved, although I’m mostly blind. At just 4.5 lbs, I’m still slightly underweight, but I’ve got a big appetite and I’m slowly gaining weight.
I may be timid when I’m in a new place due to poor eyesight, but I get around pretty well once I get my bearings. I’m a low energy girl, so I like to spend my time snuggled under blankets or sitting on your lap.
I’m looking for a quiet home where I can be the “only child.” Despite my health issues, I’m a relatively low maintenance girl. I’m potty trained and I sleep through the night.
Are you willing to let me into your heart and home? I’ll do my best to live up to my name!
Precious is a rescue from Chihuahua Rescue and Transport. She’s been spayed and has received dental treatment and vaccinations. She requires daily eye drops for her remaining eye. As she is missing some teeth post-dental, she is now eating soft food.

Hewey
Hi, everybody!
My name is Hewey. I arrived at Red Dog Farm after being airlifted out of Asheville in 2024 following Hurricane Helene. I had several medical issues and underwent two major surgeries. The great news? I made an incredible recovery! I may be an older guy, but I’m a loveable goofball once I get to know you!
I’ve been working hard on socializing with other dogs and cats, and I’ll make a wonderful addition to your family. I've shown remarkable resilience and I'm excited to start my new life with my forever family. I’m ready to be your best friend. I just need you to bring you home!
Hewey is a mixed breed, estimated at 7.5 years old. He suffers from mild kidney disease, but is managing it well with the help of medications and a prescription diet (these can be covered by his sponsorship!). Ready to adopt? Click here to apply. To learn more information, visit Red Dog Farm.

Jellybean
Hi, everyone, my name is Jellybean!
People describe me as “affectionate, gentle, and loyal.” I started my journey all alone on a rural road in the Charlotte area, but luck was on my side when an animal rescue volunteer spotted me.
Now that I’ve received the proper care, I’m ready for a permanent home. I’m in great health aside from mild cataracts and I get around just fine. I’m a quiet girl who gets along with everyone–dogs, cats, you name it! My vet says I’m the nicest Chihuahua they’ve met, and my smile is irresistible (if I do say so myself). All I’m asking for is a lap to sit on and a family to call my own.
Jellybean came to North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue in January 2025. She’s estimated to be around 8-10 years old. She’s been spayed, vaccinated, and tested negative for heartworm and Lyme. Her cataracts do not significantly impact her vision, and she can get around the house fine (although she may need help with stairs). She is working on her housetraining and is getting better every day. Her friendly nature makes her the ideal addition to a small family.
