Why Focus On Senior Dogs?
Occasionally, we are asked the provocative, yet understandable question: Why put time and energy into saving dogs that are nearing the end of their life? The answer is simple; we care about the quality, not the quantity of time our seniors have left. We treat our sick and/or elderly members of society with grace and respect by offering hospice or other non-profit services like “Make a Wish” that are designed to give them enrichment and comfort during their remaining time.
Vintage Fur aims to offer the same service to senior dogs so that they can spend their lives in a warm loving home. Remember, dogs don’t process memories the same way people do, so their final days can have a humongous impact on their overall happiness.
How Do You Handle The Grief Of Losing Your Old Friends?
Sadly, losing your beloved pet is never easy. It is heartbreaking to say goodbye, regardless of how much you mentally prepare yourself or how many times you’ve gone through it before. The key is to shift your perspective by realizing that everything in life will eventually come to an end and all we can do is embrace the people and experiences it brings while we have them.
A healthy mind will never avoid something that brings joy over fear that it will not last. Love as deeply as you can, cherish your time, and give yourself grace when it’s over.

Where Does My Money Go?
We are a completely volunteer run organization. A small percentage of money goes towards website hosting, Google Suite and other business expenses. The rest of the money goes directly towards senior dogs in the form of medical sponsorships.
4
How do you choose the dogs you help?
Vintage Fur is based in North Carolina, so we are currently only sponsoring senior dogs who have been rescued and vetted by established rescue groups in the Triad, NC area.

Why should I help dogs outside my locale?
Reports show that most rescue dogs are coming from southern states. This is primarily attributed to overpopulation caused by lower rates of spaying and neutering, escapes/abandonment during hurricane season, and fewer legal controls over loose dogs. In fact, southern shelters are often so overpopulated that it is common practice for northern-based animal rescues and shelters to take in the overflow. For more information, read here.
Additionally, every adopted rescue opens a space for another potential rescue. Senior dogs have a slower adoption rate, so they tend to “hold” spaces longer since they are often considered less desirable. Therefore, the more senior rescues that are adopted, the more space shelters have for dogs of all ages.
